Get acquainted with Rachel Hollis! LADIES, THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!

The women in my life have been encouraging me to write about women authors. My daughter loaned me her copy of GIRL, WASH YOUR FACE!

I was so impressed with the book that I decided to begin my Famous Women Author Series with Rachel Hollis. I like how the information in her writings especially GIRL, WASH YOUR FACE! Fall into a self-help genre. Rachel could be your life coach, and she would be a good one.

According to Wikipedia, RACHEL HOLLIS is an American author, motivational speaker and blogger. Rachel was born January 9, 1983 in Weedpatch, California. She is married to Dave Hollis and has four children.

Her book, GIRL, WASH YOUR FACE! Was released in February 2018 and maintained a spot in the top 10 best-selling books in the country for seven months, held the top spot for 12 of those weeks and sold more than 880,000 total copies in the United States. It was the second-most popular book of 2018 on Amazon.

After graduating high school, Rachel moved to Los Angeles, CA, where she went to work for Miramax. It was there she met her husband and founded an event-planning company called Chic Events. This led to her lifestyle website TheChicSuite.com.

Her book is described by the Washington Post as mixing “memoir”, motivational tips, Bible quotations and common-sense girl talk. The prevailing message of GIRL, WASH YOUR FACE! Is one largely female self-reliance, summed up by Hollis as “You, and only you, are ultimately responsible for how happy you are.

Since the success of her book, Rachel and her family have moved outside of Austin, Texas. She frequently posts YouTube videos with motivational messages, and has garnered over 71,000 subscribers.

In 2019, Rachel released a follow-up book, GIRL, STOP APOLOGIZING!

The Publishers Weekly reviewed the book as a “Best Book” recently and is as follows:

Hollis asks female readers to find their inner truths in this witty guide to healthy living. Hollis, founder of the lifestyle website TheChicSite.com and married and mother of four, is a self-proclaimed recovering workaholic who suffered from erroneous beliefs instilled in childhood: “When I succeeded, I got praise and attention; I felt liked and accepted. But the moment the audience stopped clapping, it went back to the way it was before. What this taught me… is the belief that in order to be loved, I felt I needed to produce something.” Hollis implores readers to stop worrying about external pressures to always do more and, instead, to find fulfillment by getting in touch with their own desires and feelings. Readers will find hope and humor in Hollis’s stories as she challenges them to take control of their physical, mental, and spiritual health through regulating habits, resisting unhelpful comparisons, and embracing changes such as marriage and motherhood. Opening up about her now-husband and their rough first year of dating, Hollis reveals she was trying too hard to make something work that didn’t fit and admonishes other women not to do the same by making any single person their purpose for living. Throughout, she pairs biblical lessons with personal anecdotes to make her points. Hollis’s dynamic book is filled with inspiration for women who feel stuck on the path to realizing their dreams.

Another Book Review that I was impressed with was from “Laura Harris Writes).

I would like to hit some high points of the review written by Laura:

Today, I finished reading GIRL, WASH YOUR FACE! By Christian author and lifestyle blogger, Rachel Hollis. I’m glad I did. This book challenges and conquers the biggest lies Rachel has let herself believe.

These lies, many of which are universal, hit home particularly with Christian moms who may be struggling too.

I love how Rachel starts each chapter with a lie. Then she spends the rest of the chapter refuting it and speaks words of truth, honesty, and encouragement to the reader.

Here are some of the examples of the lies she tackles.

“Something else will make me happy,”

“I’m not good enough.”

“I will never get past this.”

“I am defined with my weight.”

Do any of these tug on your heart? I can answer that for myself. It is a resounding yes!

She targeted these lies, then tackled them to the ground with truth, openness, courage, support, and grace.

Laura concludes her review by saying: “When you finish this book, you’ll be able to sit down and write the list of lies you’ve believed. You’ll be able to take an honest look at them and start fighting back with truth, courage and grace.”

She goes on to say: “Sometimes, fighting back is with a prayer. Other times, it’s scheduling an appointment with a counselor or mentor. Or it could be opening up to your spouse.

Like Rachel, I’ve experienced so much growth and healing from doing all three of these things.”
